How much ram can windows 7/vista/xp take
Before you buy your ram, make sure your computer can take use the type of ram you are buying, check here for a guide to choosing the right ram for your pc. Keep in mind, the amount of ram you can use will be depended on your motherboard, you may not be able to utilize the full range of ram an operating system can take.
For PC gamers, it is suggested to use 8GB of Ram.
For casual users, it is suggested to use 4GB of Ram.
Windows 7
If you are using windows 7 X32-bit system (also known as X86), you can only use a maximum of 4 GB. Whereas X64 for windows 7 has a limit of:
- Windows 7 Professional- 192 GB
- Windows 7 Ultimate- 192 GB
- Windows 7 Enterprise – 192 GB
- Windows 7 Home Premium – 16 GB
- Home basic – 8 GB
Windows Vista
Windows Vista X32-bit can use a maximum of 4 GB, were as X64-bit can use a maximum of:
- Windows Vista Business- 128 GB
- Windows 7 Ultimate- 128 GB
- Windows 7 Enterprise – 128 GB
- Windows 7 Home Premium – 16 GB
- Vista Home basic – 8 GB
Windows XP
- X32-bit – 4 GB
- X64-bit – 128 GB
- Starter edition – 512 MB
